Police are notifying the public about Durham Police Department uniforms that were recently stolen from an officer’s home.
The theft was discovered during a break-in call. No department-issued badges or identification was stolen.
“Please be aware that Durham Police Department officers carry department identification and are equipped with badges,” the department said in a news release. “Residents should request identification if there is a question about the legitimacy of an officer.”

The name and address of the officer whose uniforms were stolen are not being released due to safety concerns.
