The Raleigh man accused of trying to kill his children was charged with murder Thursday after his 3-year-old daughter, Calista Lassiter, died in the hospital Wednesday.
Alan Lassiter told a 911 operator he tried to drown his two daughters, ages 3 and 5, in a pond at Audubon Lake apartments, near Interstate 40 north of The Streets at Southpoint, around 9 p.m. Sunday. Lassiter’s 7-year-old son got away, police said.
Lassiter initially faced three counts of attempted murder and had remained in jail on a $2 million bail.
Calista, who was submerged under water when an off duty sheriff’s deputy pulled her from the pond, had been listed in critical condition since she was taken to the hospital Sunday.

Her 5-year-old sister was released from the hospital Tuesday, police have said.
