By Thursday afternoon police had roped off most of the hotel parking lot.
Around 3:30 p.m. Jerlene Chew of Blytheville, Arkansas, watched as her three grandchildren swam in the pool. She said she didn’t hear anything but that hotel staff said it would be safe to swim in the pool.
“I keep looking around to see if there is any danger,” she said, but the kids really wanted to stay and swim.
Cliff Phillips of Charlotte has been staying at the hotel for two months. It’s been busy, but he said he had not noticed anything unusual.
“It’s pretty surprising,” he said of the shooting.
