For her Gold Award project, “Social Media,” Sumpter developed a program to educate students about social networks. She outlined the advantages and disadvantages of social networking and explained how social media can affect professional networking, which is a crucial element of successful career planning. Hacking, cyberbullying, stalking, fraud, and virus attacks were among the topics in the interactive, multi-media course Sumpter developed and presented.
Sumpter is the daughter of Derrick and Aisha Cates and Algernon and Monica Sumpter. She has been in Girl Scouts since 2000. In addition to Girl Scouting, Sumpter participates in Calvary’s Anointed Mime Ministry, First Calvary Baptist Church Usher Board Ministry, and volunteers at Mrs. Jennie’s Community Enrichment Center.
