The Durham School of Arts Middle School Science Olympiad team placed first in the Durham Regional March 15. This qualified them for the N.C. Science Olympiad State Championships held April 26. Overall, the team placed 11th (out of 50 Middle School teams) including some impressive individual team performances. The Write It, Do It team of Christina Boxberger and Ben Sempowski who finished first, State Champions. The DSA team also medaled in Disease Detectives (3rd), Water Quality (3rd), Duct Tape Challenge (4th), Entomology (5th), It Matters (7th), Road Scholar (7th), Simple Machines (9th), Experimental Design (9th) and Stuck on Science (10th).

The DSA team consisted of Jackson Astraikis, Christina Boxberger, Stratton Elkin, Gareth Ferguson, Aidan Halpin, Jackson Holcomb, Eddy Hurley, Forrest Hurley, Abby Ivey, Ivy Jones, Lucas Mock, Lindsey Rogers, Izzy Salazar, Ben Sempowski, Jane Tayyeb, McKenna Vernon, Mirage Vyas, David Zhou, Reese Powell, Graham Buhrman, Elle Linthicum, Rachel Emrick, Trey Franks, Malcolm Craven, Serach Patterson, Zachary Halverson, Adrian Caballero, and Kaleb Williamson-Hill.

The team was coached by Kateri Hoekstra, Susan Rogers, and Laura Tuson.
