Charles Edward Lee, 82, of Dunn (formally of Chalybeate Springs and Durham) died Wednesday March 19th 2014, at the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield. He was born August 26,1931 in Harnett County.

After retiring from Durham Life Insurance he started a second career along with his wife Mary and partner Sarah Johnson (preceded him in death) as the owners/operators of Triangle Furniture. Later he also owned and operated Lee’s Variety. Upon retiring a second time he returned to his home place in Chalybeate Springs NC and opened Lee’s Greenhouse.

Charles was gifted gardener who started in the tobacco fields and could make anything grow from a small seedling. Charles and Mary grew many varieties of tomatoes and foliage plants, ferns in the spring and hearty mums in the fall. Many families, churches and the Chalybeate Springs/Fuquay-Varina community enjoyed the plants they provided.

So many were touched by Charles' witty stories, old-time recipes and love of western TV shows and old time country music.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Midgette Lee; his children, Deborah (Gary), Charles, Jr. (Kyra), Robert (Jeannie), Teresa (Alan), and Timothy (Tammy). Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Kelli, Joey, Amy, Brandon, Rhonda, Parker and Preston. He has four great-grandchildren, Camden, Lily, Larkin, and Kenli. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Patrick Raymond Lee.

A memorial service to celebrate his life is scheduled for April 5th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church at 100 Judd Parkway in Fuquay-Varina.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to your local Hospice organization.
