Robbie, then Bob Rhine, died peacefully February 14, 2015 after two years of hospice care. The son of Louisa and J.B. Rhine of Durham, he was the eldest of their four children. He attended Durham public schools and graduated from Mocksville High School. He then attended Duke University and graduated with a degree in Engineering. After proudly serving in the Marine Corps in Korea, he mustered out a Captain. He then had a long career with General Motors, spending the last twenty years of his career abroad at their Antwerp, Belgium, and Mexico City facilities. He enjoyed his retirement in Florida and then Las Vegas, NV. While in retirement he continued to enjoy playing tennis regularly, served on the board of The Rhine Research Center, and continued traveling and reading history. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose Holloman Rhine and son Robert Jr., of Las Vegas, daughter Rebecca Rhine, Oakland, CA., and son Randall Rhine, Boston. His sisters, Dr. Sally Rhine Feather of Durham, and Rosie Rhine, Portland, OR, also survive him. His sister Elizabeth predeceased him. His parents, Dr. Louisa Rhine and Dr. J.B. Rhine were Duke faculty members for many years and then founded what is known as The Rhine Research Center, located in Durham.
