at Green Hope (2-0)
The Falcons’ non-conference schedule is replete with programs that are accomplishing what Jordan wants to do: rebuilding. Coach Kwame Dixon has had Green Hope on an upward trajectory since he arrived, and last year he guided his team to the state playoffs for the first time since 2005. One of his best weapons is Bryce Dixon, the leading receiver in the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference.
Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday, At Green Hope Stadium
Raleigh Wakefield (0-1)
at Northern (0-2)
Northern has struggled to find the end zone and has been shut out two weeks in a row. A lot of the problems are self-inflicted. Despite two turnovers in Orange’s red zone last Friday, the Knights didn’t score and ended up with just 22 yards of total offense. Wakefield gave up 39 points in last week’s loss to Holly Springs, so this may be a good chance for Northern finally to get its ground game in gear.
Game time: 7 p.m. Friday, at Durham County Memorial Stadium
Riverside (0-2) at Orange (2-0)
With wins in hand against Person and Northern Durham, Orange is looking to go 3-0 against PAC-6 teams this season. The Pirates have been close against two top teams – Chapel Hill and Fuquay-Varina – and have too much talent to continue a downward slide unabated.
Orange has been workmanlike in its first two wins. The Panther offense has been productive with veteran quarterback Garrett Cloer running the show. But it’s the Orange defense that’s been truly outstanding. After giving up two late TDs at under-rated Roxboro Person, the Panthers completely shut down Northern Durham last Friday in a shutout win.
Game time: 7 p.m. Friday at Auman Stadium
Hillside (0-2) at Gray Collegiate (0-1)
The Hornets return to S.C. for the first time since 2011. Gray is a charter school in its first year of varsity football competition. The War Eagles lost their opening game 21-6 at Great Falls. They’ve probably picked the wrong time to invite the Hornets, who are eager to erase the taste of two straight losses – albeit to top programs in New New Bern and Southern.
Game time: 7:30 p.m., West Columbia, S.C.
Southern (2-0) ...
