Sertoma Charity Golf Tournament set for May 6
The Triangle Sertoma Club of Durham is hosting its annual Spring Charity Superball Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 6, at Hillandale, with a tee-off time of 10:15 a.m. Sign-in begins at 9:30 a.m.
Proceeds raised from the captain’s choice event will benefit speech and hearing impaired children in the Durham community.
The tournament features a post-flighted format with three levels of winner’s prizes, pre- and post-tournament catering, free beverages, and plenty of door prizes.
The entry fee is $280 per foursome.

Howell, Bethea win in Chapel Hill 5K for Fitness
Brendan Howell of Durham, 38, was the overall winner in last weekend’s 5K for Fitness race in downtown Chapel Hill, clocking in at 17:13.
Melissa Kay of Carrboro (20:37) was the first female finisher. Jasmine Bethea of Durham (22:59) was first in the 20-29 female age-group.
Durham’s Buddhi Khadka took second place in the 30-39 males’ division.
Durham Sports Club hosts Shane Ryan next week
Professional golfer, author and GolfDigest.com contributor Shane Ryan will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Durham Sports Club.
The program gets underway at noon Wednesday, May 6, at the Croasdaile Country Club.
DSC meetings are open to the public. The fee for non-members is $25, which includes a buffet lunch.
