A 20-year-old Cary man faces a court date in August after being charged with engaging in a sexual act with a 14-year-old in May.

The Knightdale Police Department arrested Marshall Everette Wise, of 104 Collier Place, on July 11, according to an arrest warrant.

Wise, who is listed in county records as an employee of Baker Roofing, faces felony charges of indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape.

Police say the crime took place on May 5 and that at that time Wise resided at 503 Pine Forest Trail in the Trail Ridge subdivision near Parkside Commons in Knightdale.

“The victim, in essence, confided to a third party and the third party brought it to us,” Knightdale police Chief Jason Godwin said. Police determined through interviews the act was consensual, however, the age of consent in North Carolina is 16.

Police declined to provide details on the relationship between the suspect and the victim, saying that doing so might compromise the victim’s identity.

Wise has no prior criminal history in North Carolina. He was being held in the Wake County jail Friday on $550,000 bond, county records show. His next court appearance is set for Aug. 4.
