A man whom Zebulon police wanted on multiple drug charges and California authorities wanted for parole violation was arrested Monday night in Raleigh by an officer who was checking on information about a different matter.

Randy Lee Tyler, 28, was arrested at Dorothea Street and Boylan Avenue by a Raleigh officer who was conducting what police refer to as a “knock and talk” investigation about 8:30 p.m. in that area to check on information police had about an unrelated case.

A computer check showed Zebulon investigators were looking for Tyler on cocaine, and marijuana charges, including trafficking in cocaine.

A February warrant from California charging him with violating parole from a 2009 conviction also appeared, records show.

In their warrants, Zebulon officers charged Tyler with manufacturing 44 grams (about 1.5 ounces) of crack cocaine, possession of 360 grams (a littler over 12 ounces) of marijuana, keeping an apartment at 721 Dorothea Drive for keeping and selling drugs and with misdemeanor possession of scales, smoking papers and Pyrex bowls that police believe were used to make crack from powdered cocaine.

A magistrate set Tyler’s bail at $500,000 – half for the drug charges and half for the California warrant – and he was set for a court appearance Tuesday.

Tyler gave officials an address of 5037 Knightsbridge Way in Raleigh, though the arrest warrants all listed his address as 9513 Emerald Park Drive in Elk Grove, Calif.
