Kentucky State Police arrested a former Wendell resident on Aug. 26 on several charges related to having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Eugene Edward Hunt, 50, is charged with two felony counts of second-degree rape, three felony counts of unlawful transaction with a minor younger than 16 and felony second-degree sodomy.
He could face up to 40 years in prison for the charges combined.
The victim was 13 when the relationship started and she is now three months pregnant with Hunt’s child, Kentucky State Police said. According to the Kentucky arrest warrant, “(Hunt) is in love with the victim and would marry her right now and take care of her and the unborn child.”
The relationship with the victim started when Hunt was living with her and her father, Kentucky State Police spokesman Jeff Gregory said. The arrest warrant says the 10 incidences of sexual intercourse began on Valentine’s Day last year.
Police aren’t sure yet how Hunt came to know the family, but he did move to the area about a year ago from Wendell.
The victim and her mother reported the relationship on Aug. 26. Hunt was arrested the same day.
Hunt moved to White Hills, Kent. from Wendell about a year ago. The area is about 45 miles south of Louisville.
Police said he was traveling between Kentucky and Wendell, although Kentucky police are not sure why. In the Kentucky arrest citation, Hunt is listed as a Kentucky resident.
Criminal records show Hunt has a handful of traffic violations, the most recent for speeding in 2005. At that time, his address was listed in Zebulon.
Before that, Hunt had addresses in Raleigh, Knightdale and Wendell.
Right now, Gregory said the investigation in Kentucky is ongoing and Kentucky State Police have not contacted Wendell Police. Gregory said it’s not clear if they will have to.
Hunt will appear in a Kentucky court on Sept. 5.
