It’s tradition for the rivalry between Knightdale and East Wake high schools to heat up the week before the two schools face off in major sports games.
But this year, both schools’ administrators turned up the heat even more.
Administrators from East Wake and Knightdale high schools competed against each other in the Buffalo Wild Wing’s hot wing challenge on Wednesday before the two rival schools’ football game on Nov. 7.
Five administrators from Knightdale and two from East Wake had to eat 11 hot wings from Buffalo Wild Wings in under six minutes. KHS principal Jim Argent finished first and set a new record at the restaurant, downing his wings in 3:14.
The event was advertised as a competition to promote a healthy rivalry between the schools, whose students have been known to take the rivalry outside the school.
During basketball season in February, Knightdale students tagged a wall at East Wake High School and several buses. A group of East Wake High School students tagged and dismantled part of Knightdale’s High’s sign, that is actually town property.
But Wednesday’s competition was in an effort to put it all behind them and focus on channeling that rivalry into a fun environment.
