Police swore in their newest addition last week.

Capt. Jacqui Boykin replaces former Capt. Tony Lashley, who retired on May 31 after 17 years with Knightdale police.

Boykin’s first day was June 2.

Boykin brings almost the same number of years’ experience to the table, having served 16 years with Wilson police.

Beginning as a patrol officer in Wilson, Boykin eventually became the department’s Professional Standards Sergeant and Accreditation Manager.

In that position, Boykin’s department received national accredidation twice.

In Knightdale, her responsibilities will not include managing accredidation because the department has a seperate, non-sworn employee responsible for that function.

"Captain Boykin is a veteran law enforcement officer who brings a large agency perspective to Knightdale," said Chief Jason Godwin. "Her experience in every facet of law enforcement will benefit the Knightdale police department greatly.”

In addition to her professional experience, Boykin was active in the Wilson community. She served on Wilson County’s planning board and was active in several organizations that worked with people with disabilities, including the Special Olympics.

“Her commitment to the community fits exceptionally well with our community-oriented policing initiative,” Godwin said.

Boykin will be one of five female sworn officers on the Knightdale police department. Prior to Boykin’s arrival there were three female police officers and one female reserve officer.
