Mayor James Roberson announced at the Town Council meeting Monday, Nov. 7, that he was creating two new council committees: a legislative committee and a parks and recreation committee.
The legislative committee is to consist of two council members appointed by the mayor, one from the planning and engineering committee and one from the technical review committee, and Development Services Director Chris Hills and his staff. It is to focus on intergovernmental relations, zoning map amendment case referrals, town code amendments, zoning text amendment drafting and development concerns.
The parks and recreation committee is to consist of two council members, also appointed by the mayor; Administrative Services Director Suzanne Yeatts and Parks and Recreation Director Tina Cheek. It is to focus on discussion and guidance for all Parks and Recreation events and programs.
Yeatts noted after the announcement that the Parks and Recreation Department had been the only town department without a council committee assigned to it.
Never miss a local story.
All current council committees and citizen advisory boards are to remain in place.
Council member Randy Young said he thought the parks and recreation committee was a good idea with the growth of programs in the department and said he was willing to serve on the committee.
