A fire on Sunday ruined a family’s apartment in a building at 1201 S. East St. in Raleigh, and police arrested a Knightdale man there shortly afterward in connection with the blaze.
Firefighters said the fire left four people homeless, and they ruled that an incendiary device was the cause.
The fire was reported just before 11:30 a.m.
About 90 minutes later, police arrested Rodriguez Garcia McKoy, 30, at the fire scene and charged him with burning personal property. Police added a charge of second degree arson against McKoy on Monday, according to arrest reports.
Never miss a local story.
McKoy, who told officers he lived in Knightdale but had no permanent address, was being held on $100,000 bail Wednesday. His next court date is March 17.
Firefighters had the fire under control within 10 minutes and kept it from displacing others in the two-story building, they reported.
