Grounds Café will launch in the Wendell Falls Farmhouse with the community’s grand opening in May and will feature gourmet coffee, craft beer and handmade fashion accessories.
Grounds Café owner and CEO Casey Marburger has formerly run two pop-up coffee shops in Raleigh and launched Event Espresso Catering in 2011, but now will pour her full-time business into a “brick-and-mortar” location.
Newland Communities Vice President of Operations Laurie Ford said she believes Marburger’s reputation will not only quickly attract the citizens of Wendell but also draw some of the same customers she served in downtown Raleigh.
The café will be a kaleidoscopic assembly of beer from Big Boss Brewing, coffee roasted by Raleigh Coffee Company and a menu and build-your-own grilled cheese bar made from locally-sourced ingredients.

Along with the brew bar, the café will feature a community table.
“This is kind of a unique environment,” Ford said. “It’s not a standard set-up for a coffee shop, so we needed to find a coffee operator that could think outside the box a little bit. (Marburger) is used to setting up in variety situations...she has the right skill set personality to pull this off.”
The Wendell Falls Farmhouse, the open clubhouse located at the center of the subdivision, will be the hub of the community’s management and gym, but will be open for event rental space and the public café.
