Searchers looking for a missing Knightdale man found him unharmed early Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia.
Harvey Sirgusters Richardson, 81, had been missing since early Tuesday afternoon.
He was believed to have been trying to visit someone who lives in Pennsylvania, according to Knightdale police Chief Lawrence Capps.
Officers were able to locate him by tracking cell phone numbers that belonged to him.
“We actually called him and got him on the line and told him he had been reported missing and what was going on here,” Capps said.
Philidelphia police were able to go to the home where Richardson was and verify his safety.
The N.C. Department of Crime Control had issued a Silver Alert for Richardson Wednesday afternoon because he had not been seen for a day and he was believed to have left home without medicine he takes for dementia or a related illness.
Knightdale police originally thought he may have been traveling to some sweepstakes parlors in Raleigh. Instead, he went to a Raleigh mall where he rented a car.
