Area residents can get a hand with their wellness at a free Rotary Club of Wendell Health Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9.
“We’re just trying to make the town healthier and let them know what services are in town,” said Dr. Jon Lutz of Wendell Eyecare, a Rotarian who also will be providing vision screenings at the event.
Representatives from health care providers in town and others will be on hand for the project, which will be at Knott Square shopping center, 2451 Wendell Blvd.
This will be Wendell’s first Rotary Health Day, Lutz said, and the club plans to hold it each spring.
Never miss a local story.
“We were brainstorming about an event that we could make an annual event to benefit the town,” Lutz said. “What’s more important than your health? Health is the most important thing.”
Lutz said some health fairs focus more on getting health information out, but the club wanted to focus this Health Day on screenings.
In addition to vision screenings, there will be ear scans, dental screenings, blood pressure and general health screenings, chiropractic screenings and advice on general health and well-being.
In addition to Wendell Eyecare, partners who will have representatives on hand include Community Family Medicine, Wendell Family Dentistry, Vardy Human Performance Center chiropractic, Down East Hearing Care Associates, Ritch’s Personal Training and the Wendell Parks and Recreation Department.
The services won’t replace care patients can get from regular doctor visits, Lutz said, but it could alert them to a condition they may need to follow up on.
“It’s for people who have a regular doctor. It’s for people who haven’t been to the doctor in awhile,” he said. “It’s for anybody and everybody.”
The club will be updating its Facebook page with details about the event, Lutz said.
Other causes the club supports in town include an annual book drive in which the club donates books purchased through grant funds to area elementary schools, scholarships for high school seniors, Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, a Thanksgiving canned food drive for local food pantries and providing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for those in need.
