The town will celebrate its business community at the chamber of commerce’s annual awards recognition and reception Tuesday, May 3, at Knightdale Station Park, in the pavilion area.
This will be the first time it has been held at the park. Also new this year, heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served rather than a banquet.
The event will start with networking and socializing, along with live music, at 5:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow at 6:45. It is scheduled to end at 8.
“We want to re-energize our businesses and let them know their contributions are not going unrecognized,” said Patrice Bayyan, who took over as executive director of the chamber in February.
Never miss a local story.
There will be awards for Citizen of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year and Ambassador of the year. The awards are based on community advocacy, service, leadership and innovation.
Mayor James Roberson will give the welcoming remarks. The emcee for the rest of the evening will be Mike Wheless of WQDR, a country music radio station based in Raleigh.
A live auction is also planned.
Bayyan said the chamber will be working hard this year to appeal to young professional leaders.
“As we are seeing that we have more younger members joining, it provides them the opportunity to create leadership programs. At the end of the day it helps us develop our workforce.”
She also plans for members to talk over goals for the year and further down the road at the event, including more membership engagement.
She wants the chamber to work more closely with the town to drive business recruiting and expansion efforts.
The deadline to register for the awards ceremony and reception is Tuesday, April 26, at www.knightdalechamber.org/events.
