The second Wendell area food drive will be hosted by local churches and will collect grocery bags with non-perishable items beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Residents are asked to leave their bags on their front steps or porches. Bags will be picked up by participating churches starting at 10 a.m.
Volunteers with the Wendell Council of Churches will distribute the grocery bags on Oct. 11 to give residents time to fill them before they are collected the following week.
Participating churches are New Hope Baptist, Pleasant Grove Baptist, Covenant Presbyterian, St. Eugene Catholic, Wendell Baptist, First Baptist of Wendell, Wendell Christian and Wendell United Methodist.
Suggested items are grits, rice, pancake mix, syrup, oatmeal, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned milk, Kool-Aid and other drink mixes, ramen noodles, canned chicken, tuna or ham, pasta, macaroni and cheese kits, canned soups or canned fruits.
