Cindy Privette was eager to tell her friends at a Zebulon Chamber of Commerce meeting last spring how much her church, Zebulon United Methodist, had enjoyed watching the movie “Courageous.”
She soon learned that one of her tablemates was neighbors with Rusty Martin Jr., who plays Dylan in the movie. A few weeks later Rusty and his parents, who live in Cary, visited the church and told the congregation about his upcoming movie, “Jackson’s Run.”
The church soon began working with producers for “Jackson’s Run” to spread the word about the new film. While brainstorming ideas for promoting the movie, members came up with the idea to host an Impact Challenge Weekend July 26-28 as the North Carolina premiere for “Jackson’s Run.”
“While the idea started from our church, it has grown into something much bigger,” said Privette, the event coordinator. “The weekend has become a grassroots effort with volunteers from various churches and denominations around the Triangle.”
The Impact Challenge Weekend will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday at Norris Creek Outdoor Entertainment Complex. The complex is located at 751 Old Halifax Road in Louisburg, just north of Zebulon.
“Jackson’s Run” will be shown at 8:20 p.m. Friday and the Walk of the Cross will begin at 8:40 p.m. Saturday. The weekend will include live entertainment from bands such as Satan’s Kiss, Second Perception and others.
While the event is aimed at youth, Privette encourages people of all ages and stages of life to attend. Organizers want attendees with a strong relationship with God to attend the event as well. In addition to experiencing a renewal of faith, Privette said they will be instrumental in providing support to those who commit their life at the event.
“We want people to come so that they can praise, worship and (share) fellowship,” she said. “We want to show youth and young adults that it does not matter what is in their past and where they are in the life. God loves them, and he is loving them through us. If we can change the life of one person or one family, then God’s vision will have been accomplished.”
Tickets are $5 per person. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.impactchallengenc.org.
