Knightdale was the site of one of the biggest birthday parties of the year when Harue Jones celebrated her 100th birthday. “Miss Harue,” as long-term townspeople call her, was born May 26,1914, to John and Florence Jones who lived north of Rolesville. She married Lester L. Jones and they raised three children: Linwood, Buck and Libby.
She says she was frightened by the first airplane she saw because she didn’t know what it was. Don’t let that little scare fool you. Miss Harue is tough. When she recently got a little scrape, she said that she had to teach the other guy a lesson.
“You oughta see him,” she said.
Miss Harue has mothered many of the children in town, especially by taking care of them in the Knightdale Baptist Church nursery.
She now resides at Wellington Rehab, where she loves playing, and especially winning, Bingo. Her other major pleasure is visitors.
