Local Girl Scouts earn Silver Award
Two Wendell Girl Scouts have been awarded the Silver Award which is the second highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
▪ Shelby Anderson, of Wendell, is the daughter of Denzil and Gwen Anderson. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 640. For her Silver Award project, Anderson worked with the Carolina House’s dementia and Alzheimer’s disease care unit to provide a makeover of the courtyard at the facility. Inspired by her great-grandfather, who had resided in a similar facility, she planted flowers, started a vegetable garden, and built a small putting green in the courtyard. When the project was complete, she organized a dedication ceremony and party for the residents and their families.
▪ Logan Taylor, of Wendell, is the daughter of Angie and Rob Taylor. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 640. For her Girl Scout Silver Award project, Taylor partnered with Aversboro Assisted Living in Garner to implement “Seniors Smile,” a program dedicated to bringing fun and companionship to senior citizens. Taylor spent time visiting with the residents of the center, giving them Christmas gifts, and playing bingo on several occasions. She collected cans to raise the money to pay for the bingo equipment and prizes for the winners.
