Steven Weatherspoon wins scholarship
The 2015 Alston-Pleasants Scholarship for undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been awarded to Steven Weatherspoon of Franklin County. Weatherspoon is a resident of Zebulon and is the son of Michael and Michelle Weatherspoon. He is a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham.
William Peace University announces Dean's List
Seven local students earned academic honors during the Fall 2014 semester at William Peace University.
Kristal Atkinson, Elledeia Ijames, Jordan Lairson and Anna Outlaw of Wendell and Brittaney Crudup of Zebulon were named to the Dean's List. Dean's List students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.3.
Talia Garris of Knightdale made the Dean's List with Distinction maintaining a GPA of at least 3.7.
Olivia Gray of Knightdale made the Dean's Scholar List with a GPA of 4.0.
East Wake Middle School Community Day
East Wake Middle will be holding a community day and fundraiser Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to campus tours, parent seminars and student performances, there will be food, a 5K, inflatables and an international fair. The Praise Prom is a Christian alternative prom created for area high school homeschoolers, but open to any rising 9th grade to 12th grade student and alumni up to age 21. The prom will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Wendell Community Center, 601 W. Third St., Wendell. Cost is $45 to $60. Register at praiseprom.com/home.
