Seniors have contributed
The aging process comes with many blessings, hurdles and challenges. One place where these blessings and challenges are quite obvious is the retirement community of Robinwood in Wendell. Robinwood is an “independent” apartment living facility much like any apartment complex, with the exception of being designed for senior citizens and people who may have some physical challenges but can still maintain their independent lifestyle.
Many who live there are still physically and socially active; however, there are some who struggle with their independence each day until the battle becomes too great to win. The residents of Robinwood are really remarkable and inspirational with their self-motivation to keep up the momentum even when things are difficult.
I am a frequent visitor at Robinwood because my mother resides there and has for over 15 years, so I see firsthand the changes that occur for many of these remarkable people and I continue to be inspired by their courage, humor and fellowship.
Never miss a local story.
Some comments that have been made about Robinwood recently are disturbing to me. Some opinions from residents of Wendell and the surrounding communities are that our tax dollars are supporting the residents of Robinwood.
While some of Robinwood’s funding may be from federal tax funds, each resident pays their own rent and living expenses. Each of these residents, their spouses and families worked, had careers and paid their taxes for years and years and some continue to do so. So, to have the opinion that the community is supported by tax dollars by anyone outside of the Robinwood Community is ridiculous.
I hope this hits home for some of you who need to think about life and understand the reality of what our senior citizens have contributed and what they deserve in support from all of us, whether it is financial, emotional or just being a friend.
