Wendell commissioners were deliberate in their decision-making process in the matter of a proposed development that would incorporate senior living spaces, single-family homes and retail space on land behind the site of the Church of God on Wendell Boulevard. But in the end, they made the right decision.
Commissioners, as has been their practice, were not supportive of a project that would serve low-income residents, but when they learned that was not the target population of this proposal, they addressed the major concern of neighbors and gave the go-ahead for the development.
Time will tell if this project will actually get off the ground, but it’s good to see development taking place on the town’s fringes and it’s even better to see that town leaders won’t be standing in the way.
Commissioners made the right decision and they did so with the proper amount of prudence. That’s exactly how we want government to function.
