Wendell Middle School student Matthew McIntyre spent the week of June 21-25 soaking up lessons on the hardwoods at the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp.
McIntyre attended the camp, held June 21-25 at UNC-Chapel Hill, on an all-expense-paid Touchstone Energy scholarship awarded by non-profit utility service Wake Electric. The scholarship was one of more than 50 provided to middle school students across the state.
McIntyre, the son of Derrick and Nikki McIntyre, was selected by a panel of judges based on an application that included academic achievements, extracurricular activities, an essay and a short-answer question.
McIntyre occupied a campus dorm for the duration of the week-long camp, led by UNC coach Roy Williams, his staff and current and past Tar Heel basketball players.
Coaches worked closely with each camper to develop fundamental basketball skills and practice playing hard while working cooperatively.
