A trio of home meets Tuesday marked the end of the regular season for local Tarheel Swimming Association teams, leaving only the July 26-27 league championships on the agenda.
The Zebulon Dolphins (1-5) had the most successful outing of the local teams and dodged a winless campaign in the season finale for the second straight year with a 271-128 victory over the Raleigh Racquet Racquetfish (0-6). Both teams sport a 38-member roster and swim out of Division 10.
Zebulon’s triple winners were Julia Wrenn (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly) and Zollie Alford (backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly). John Husted (freestyle and backstroke) was a double winner for the Dolphins.
The Division 10 Wendell Waves (2-4, 62 swimmers) were denied a chance to break even on the season in a 274.5-228.5 loss to the Division 9 Crabtree Swimming Machine (5-1, 85 swimmers).
Wendell’s triple winners were Mason Hetzell (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly) and Nathan Bryant, Caroline Duttman, Daniel Duttman and Alicia Neal (freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly).
The Planter’s Walk Piranhas (1-5, 86 swimmers) were outmatched, 339-175, in a Division 6 showdown against the Brier Creek Barracudas (4-2, 115 swimmers) to end the season.
The Piranhas’ lone triple winner was Liam Givens-Keatley (backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly).
