Local Tarheel Swimming Association teams dropped all three of their meets Tuesday night, although the Planters Walk Piranhas continued to show steady improvement in their performances.
Despite a strong effort by the Piranhas, Headdingham’s unbeaten streak remains intact. The Sharks used their team size advantage of 112 swimmers to the Planter's Walk team of 86 to tilt the balance of power as the two teams went back and forth in the lead for most of the night. The Sharks pulled away after the breast stroke and maintained their lead until the end of the meet.
Wendell fell at home to Hawthorne 270-237 in another competitive meet, while Zebulon’s undersized squad acquitted itself well in the water in a 389-111 loss at Crabtree.
Wendell got strong efforts from triple winners Mason Hetzell (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly), Nathan Bryant (freestyle, breast stroke and butterflly), Daniel Duttman (freestyle, breast stroker and butterfly) and Alicia Neal (freestyle, breast stroke and butterfly.)
For Zebulon, top performances came from Ryan Worley (first in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly) and Avery Thomas who took first place finishes in the freestyle, breaststroke and butterly.) Worley was also part of the first-place medley relay team for Zebulon.
Against Planter’s Walk, Heddingham floated to a 279-220 win over Planter’s Walk. The competitive loss marks the second strong showing by Planter’s Walk in as many weeks.
Planter’s Walk swimmers set several Heddingham pool records. In the Medley Relay records were broken by 11 - 12 boys Jackson Beam, Trent Walker II, Dax Hardy and Jadon Valles; 13 - 14 boys Evan Peters, Ben Rashleigh, Liam Givens Keatley and Cameron Mays; 15 - 18 boys Robert McCue, Dylan Bobbitt, Logan Anderson and Will Snow; and the 15 - 18 girls Leah Yuhas, Hannah Moore, Brenna Hardy and Kristin Olson. The freestyle pool record was broken by Isabella Glines in the 6 & under girls race, Liam Givens Keatley 13 - 14 boys, and Kelly McCue 13 - 14 girls also set pool records.
The backstroke pool record was broken by 6 and under swimmer Samantha Shirley. The breaststroke pool records were broken by Cole Walker 7 - 8 boys, Libby Gill 9 - 10 girls, Trent Walker II 11 - 12 boys, Evan Peters 13 - 14 boys, and Dylan Bobbitt 15 - 18 boys. The freestyle relay records were broken by the 15 - 18 boys team of McCue, Anderson, Bobbitt and Snow, and the 15 - 18 girls team of Olson, Amber Ayscue, Christina Benvenuto and Hardy.
The only triple winner for the Piranhas this week was McCue (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.)

The Division 10 Wendell Waves (62 swimmers) enter the week with a 1-3 record.
The Division 10 Zebulon Dolphins (38 swimmers) enter the week with an 0-4 record.
Planter’s Walk hosts Jewish Community Center (3-1) in week five action on Tuesday, July 8, a Division 6 team which had 103 swimmers last season.
