Why Limestone College? “It just seemed like the best opportunity, close enough to home to still be close to family,” he said. Nick gives Limestone’s wrestling program a thumb’s up but is also interested in the school’s criminal justice program. “It was the most suitable place for me,” he said. “I felt like I belonged there.”
Most Memorable: During the wrestling regional his freshman year at Knightdale, Nick acquired the movie-generated nickname McLovin’. “My father yelled it out during the wrestling match,” he recalled. ... Nick also remembers clearly the Greater Neuse River 4A Conference championships his sophomore year. “In the semifinals, I beat the kid that had been beating me all season to make the finals for the first time,” he said.
Notable: Nick lettered four years for the Knights in weight classes ranging from 120 to 126 and 132 pounds. He was a three-time All Greater Neuse River 4A Conference selection and four-time Academic All Conference honoree. He finished his career and at Knightdale with a 107-50 record.
Knightdale coach Jermod Mapp: “Nick was the technician of the group. Whether in practice or in a live match, he executed every move to form. I think a lot of people (at the college level) are going to be surprised at how finely tuned he is and to find a new guy that ready to go. He’s a great kid, very coachable and would run through a brick wall if you asked him to.”
