The summer season begins this Tuesday for local teams competing in the Tarheel Swimming Association.
The schedule consists of six Tuesday meets that are officially set to start at 7 p.m., but typically begin closer to 6 p.m. as teams try to dodge the thunderstorms that have a history of tormenting the meets throughout the season.
The association has a championship meet typically held the week after the regular season concludes.
Competition is broken down into six age groups for both boys and girls, ranging from 6 years and under to 18-year-olds. The meets are composed of medley relay, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle relay.
The teams are also placed in different divisions, competing against both teams in their own division and often those one division up or down.
All three local teams compete in the association’s Northern League.
