Why Bluefield? “They offered me an athletic scholarship which others couldn’t; it was cheaper to go there and a higher division.” Chase expects to redshirt his freshman year, and to pitch some his sophomore year and see how things go from there. “It might be a little cold, but it will be worth it,” he said of Bluefield, which borders West Virginia.
Major: Sport Medicine
Notable: Chase played two years of junior varsity baseball and football (QB, WR) at East Wake before turning his focus to varsity baseball exclusively from his junior year onward. He wants to play professionally one day – a dream of his since he was 9. “I received a lot of no’s before i received a yes (from college programs),” he said. “I just kept pushing. I focus more on baseball than anything else.” His philosophy is “first one there, last one to leave,” when it comes to work ethic.
East Wake coach Tony Piercy: “Chase brings senior leadership behind the plate and the ability to change the game with his bat. He controls the other team’s running game pretty well and handles working with the pitchers. Also, Chase is one of those kids that comes to practice every day hungry to get better and improve in all areas. He stays after and hits, too. If he continues with his current work ethic and with his current ability, he has the skill set to succeed at the next level.”
