Two Garner schools have new principals – for now.
The Wake County school board named retired principals as temporary heads of Garner Magnet High School and Timber Drive Elementary as it continues to seek permanent hires.
At Garner High School, David Rockefeller will take over for Drew Cook, who is transitioning to become head of high school programming at the central office. Rockefeller served five years as assistant principal at Millbrook High School before taking over the top spot in October of 2000 after then-principal Michael Talley was arrested on drunk-driving charges. Rockefeller left the school for a job in the central office in May 2003.
Cook’s departure date from the high school remains to be decided.
Never miss a local story.
Vicki Perry will run Timber Drive Elementary until a permanent replacement can be found for Kendra Culberson, who will move on to lead Herbert Akins Elementary in Fuquay-Varina. Perry became principal of Raleigh’s Douglas Elementary in 1997 before becoming the first principal at Harris Creek Elementary in North Raleigh in 2005. She retired in 2013, but also has served as interim principal at Creech Elementary in Garner during its most recent hiring process, and most recently had undertaken the same role at Knightdale Elementary.
Perry will serve at Timber Drive from Oct. 6 to Nov. 14, according to the board.
