September marks the beginning of fall in Johnston County, and a variety of events and festivals are scheduled for families to enjoy. Starting mostly in October, participants can enjoy pumpkin picking, hayrides, corn mazes and concerts.
Johnston County is home to family farms that have activities for children of all ages. At Clayton Fear Farm Daytime there is a cotton maze and jumping pillow to try out after picking out a pumpkin. There is also Lazy O Farm's Maze Dayz and Super Saturdayz that let children explore the barnyard and visit the farm animals before taking a hayride. If there are older kids that want to be scared, they can visit the Clayton Fear Farm at night.
There are also festivals such as the International Food Festival, Smith's Nursery Fall Festival, Wilson's Mills Pumpkin Festival, Selma Railroad Days, the Ava Gardner Festival and more. Lastly, Farm Fest presents country music with artists like Chris Young and Brett Eldredge.
