Johnston Community College has received renewed funding in the amount of $25,000 from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission (TTFC) in support of Project Skill-Up.
Through a partnership between the trust fund and the North Carolina Community College System, Project Skill-Up was created to provide short-term training leading to employment for individuals adversely affected by changes in the tobacco industry.
At JCC, these funds provide workforce training opportunities for teacher assistants and substitute teacher training, biowork training, computer classes, industrial maintenance, nursing assistant certification, culinary training and truck driver education opportunities.
Since 2008, JCC has received more than $175,000 in Project Skill-UP funding which has provided counseling, training, and new employment opportunities to more than 375 individuals.
