The Johnston County school system recently honored employees in a number of specialties.
Top honors went to Marie Simmons, Itinerant Teacher/Related Services Employee of the Year; Jill Parrish, Media Specialist of the Year; Tricia Palmer, School Counselor/Student Advocate of the Year; and Carla Pearce, School Support Employee of the Year.
For the past 14 year, Simmons, a speech therapist, has worked with the county’s preschoolers, helping to get them ready for kindergarten. Parrish is the media specialist at Four Oaks Elementary School. Palmer, a counselor at Corinth Holders High School, was honored in part for organizing a candlelight vigil, grieving groups and individual grief counseling after a student committed suicide this school year. Pearce is a school social worker.
