Police have charged a box truck driver two weeks after he struck and killed a woman when her car broke down on U.S. 70 Business near Greenfield Parkway.
Eric Adams of Raleigh was charged Friday with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The accident led to the death of a Lenae Mary Rebecca Dew, 22, of Raleigh. Dew’s Honda Accord came to a stop in one of the highway’s eastbound lanes near Interstate 40 on Aug. 17, and Adams hit her from behind.
After hitting the car, the two-axle Two Men and a Truck moving van continued into the median, which had no barrier, and entered the westbound lanes, striking a Honda Pilot and a Toyota RAV 4 heading in the opposite direction.
The moving truck Adams was driving was owned by Brooke Wilson, co-owner of Two Men and a Truck in Raleigh.
Police say they don’t anticipate any more charges in the case.
