The town council here made two significant permit approvals at their council meeting Monday night.
The first approval was a special use permit for the YMCA off Aversboro Road. The Poole Family YMCA will be the first YMCA facility in Garner. It will be 35,100 square feet, on 13.92 acres and will be adjacent to White Deer Park.
The facility will have a 4,500-square-foot wellness center, locker rooms, a nursery and children’s adventure area, an outdoor aquatics center, indoor track, a gymnasium and group exercise studio and the capacity to serve 5,000 members from the Garner community.
The YMCA is still trying to reach its $7 million goal in fundraising from the public before it begins building in March. It is less than $1 million away.
The town council also approved a Sheetz to be constructed in the northwest quadrant of White Oak Shopping Center. Sheetz will join Panera Bread, Red Robin and Zaxby’s in that quadrant.
Headquarted out of Pennsylvania, Sheetz is a gas station with a convenience store and restaurant. It was started in 1952.
Now there are currently more than 500 locations across the U.S.
It is the first gas station in the White Oak area.
This will be the second Sheetz in Garner. The other is in the U.S. 401 corridor.
