Garner residents are invited to enroll in the spring 2016 Garner 101 Citizens Academy. The academy consists of nine weekly classes and a graduation dinner and ceremony. Classes are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning March 3.
Garner 101 is designed to teach citizens about the town of Garner’s government. The evening classes offer a wealth of knowledge about the town and its services and programs. Garner 101 empowers citizens with knowledge about their municipal government that benefits their families and neighborhoods.
Participants will hear presentations from town departments and also from service partners such as the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, the Garner Police Department, Raleigh Public Utilities and Garner Volunteer Fire-Rescue. Classes include facility tours and displays.
Attendance at seven out of nine classes is required for graduation. Participants also must attend a Town Council meeting before graduation. Other encouraged activities include going on a police ride-along, attending a Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources event and downloading the free garner info mobile app.
Enrollment is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to enroll, contact Neighborhood Improvement manager Reginald Buie at 919-773-4446 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
