A Raleigh man died in a single-car wreck early Sunday morning after he crashed his car into a tree.
Ellis Griffith, 43, was driving north on U.S. 401 near Small Pine Drive when his car veered off the road and struck a tree. Griffith was pronounced dead on the scene. He was alone in the vehicle, police say. The incident happened around 3:30 a.m.
Police are not sure whether alcohol was involved, or whether he fell asleep at the wheel. Griffith’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office to determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
Garner investigators are still reconstructing the crash, Captain Joe Binns said.
