A Garner police officer was arrested last Sunday and charged with assault on a female.
A spokesperson for the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Silvestre Mendoza, 26, after two women claimed that he had assaulted them.
According to an arrest warrant, Mendoza assaulted and struck Alexandria Mercado by “putting his hands on her and throwing her around and trying to hit her in the face.”
Another warrant claims Mendoza assaulted Casey Mary Agnes Mendoza by “biting her in the middle of the right side of her back leaving bite marks.”

The case is scheduled to go to court on Aug. 15.
When reached by phone Monday afternoon, Mendoza declined to comment. He said he did not have an attorney yet.
Mendoza is a patrol officer for the Garner Police Department. He was hired on March 21. As a result of his arrest, Mendoza is on administrative leave while the Garner Police Department conducts an internal investigation, Capt. Joe Binns said.
