• Belk will host a model search from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at 1450 Garner Station Blvd., Garner. Bring a photo of your child age 5-10 to the Belk Kid Fest, and the winner will have an opportunity to be featured in a Belk catalogue.

High School Musical
The Towne Players Teens will present “Disney’s High School Musical Jr.” at 8 p.m. through Aug. 9, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Aug. 9, at the Garner Performing Arts Center, 742 W. Garner Road, Garner. Tickets are available at the door and are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. There will be a “Heroes and Villains” musical preshow beginning 30 minutes before each show. The Towne Players Teens will be selling light-up microphones to be used during the show, which will also serve as backstage passes for two. The microphones are $5 each, and proceeds will go to the Towne Players Teens.
Connect and plug in
The Garner Chamber of Commerce will hold “Connect & Plug In the Future” from noon to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 14, at The Grand Marquise Ballroom, 225 new Fidelity Court, Garner. The half-day conference will focus on major developments impacting the town’s economic climate and quality of life. Registration and lunch will take place at noon, with conference sessions running from 1 to 5 p.m. and reception and dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Registration for the full conference is $79, reception and dinner only is $35. Cans for a Cure
Vandora Springs Elementary will host the Cans for a Cure aluminum can recycling project throughout the summer months at 1300 Vandora Springs Road, Garner. Everyone is invited to recycle aluminum cans at the school in the blue recycling dumpster. All proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life of Garner. For more information email email@example.com.

Aversboro Run Club
Aversboro Run Club meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday outside Aversboro Restaurant & Sports Bar, 1411 Aversboro Road, Garner. The club is open to every runner and walker, and runs set routes of 3, 4 and 5 miles covering many paces. The restaurant offers food and drink specials to all walkers and runners upon return.

Partnership for Children of Johnston County offers two programs for parents with young children.• Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues.
• The Incredible Years parent program offers weekly group sessions for 14 to 16 weeks. Participants practice skills to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills.
