Many of Johnston County’s pre-1970 high school yearbooks are now viewable online. Staff of the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, housed in the North Carolina Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Wilson Library, recently scanned about 150 yearbooks from the Johnston County Heritage Center’s collections for their Digital NC website. The Benson Museum of Local History previously provided its collection of Benson and Meadow yearbooks for the project.
“There are still quite a few missing years in our yearbook collection,” said Heritage Center Director Todd Johnson. “If local folks are willing to lend missing volumes for scanning, or, better yet, donate them to the Heritage Center,” he adds, “it would help us provide an extremely valuable resource for the public.”
