Dog wash fundraiser
A dog wash to benefit the Johnston County Animal Protection League is set for 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Willowrun Veterinary Hospital, 1417 S. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield. The cost ranges from $7 to $20, based on the number of additional services each dog owner requests. Bring your dog’s proof of the rabies vaccination.
Southeast Regional Library has an extensive list of activities for the whole family in July. Librarians are available to help individuals find the right book, lead group book discussions with teens and suggest new avenues for reading and enjoying books. ‘Wake is great’ contest
Wake County is hosting the “Wake is Great” Instagram contest through Sunday, July 21. Wake County residents and visitors are invited to follow Wake County on Instagram and upload photos that they believe best portray how Wake is great. Tag the images with the hashtag #wakeisgreat. The Johnston County Register of Deeds office, is organizing a public shredding event 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in the Edwards IGA parking lot, 721 N. Brightleaf Blvd., Smithfield. For information, call 919-989-5160. The public can shred old files, receipts, credit card offers, bank statements, returned checks and any other sensitive information that they want to discard.
Car seat safety checks
Trained staff members from Wake County Human Services will make safety checks on child car seats from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Aug. 29, in the parking lot at the Southeast Regional Library.
The Lake Benson boathouse has opened for the season at 975 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays, and noon- 7 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed on Fridays in July and August.
