Veterans Advisory Board
The town of Garner is seeking applicants for a new Veterans Advisory Board. The board will be composed of seven at-large members, at least four of whom are honorably discharged veterans. This board may make recommendations concerning issues related to town policies that affect veterans, and will operate as a link between Garner residents and town officials to explore ways to honor and recognize the service of area veterans. Wake County is holding weekly drop-in flu vaccination clinics from 3-7 p.m. on Thursdays, at the Southern Regional Center, 130 N. Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina. In additional to the weekly clinics, appointments can be scheduled. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 919-557-2501.

Unified hazard plan
For the first time, Wake County will develop a multijurisdictional hazard mitigation plan for this year. Previously, each jurisdiction was responsible for developing its own plan. The general purposes of the plan are to protect life and property by reducing the potential for future damages and economic loss that come as a result of natural hazards. The public is invited to attend a project kickoff meeting from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Wake County Office Building, 337 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, in room G31.
A clothing and household item giveaway will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, in the fellowship hall of Red Hill United Church of Christ, 10412 Buffalo Road, Clayton. For more information, call 919-989-5902.

Partnership for Children of Johnston County offers two programs for parents with young children.
• Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues.
• The Incredible Years parent program offers weekly group sessions for 14 to 16 weeks. Participants practice skills to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills.
