Boy Scout Austin G. Vojtko, of Troop 24 Clayton, earned the rank of Eagle Scout Nov. 7. Vojtko, age 14, performed his Eagle Scout service project for the Clayton Police Department, where he installed a glass case containing shoulder patches from police departments across the state. With help from other members of his troop, Vojtko wrote 291 letters to officers around the state. 207 departments replied, sending 224 patches for his project.
Vojtko did the project in honor of his grandfather, Paul Keen, who was chief of Clayton’s Police Department for 21 years, and his great uncle Rudy Vojtko, who was chief of Northern Regional Police Department in Pa. for nine years. Austin lives in Garner, and is a freshman at Garner Magnet High.
The display can be viewed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the lobby of the Clayton Police Department, 315 E. Second St., Clayton.
