The Garner Chamber of Commerce will present its eighth annual Business and Consumer Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive. The Democratic Women of Johnston County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the fellowship hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 218 S. Second St., Smithfield. Free tax preparation
The AARP Tax Aide program will assist taxpayers in electronically filing their federal and N.C. state tax returns from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays at the Avery Street Annex, 201 Avery St., Garner. No appointments are necessary. Taxpayers and spouses, if filing jointly, must have picture IDs and Social Security cards for themselves and all dependents. If married, both taxpayers must be present. For a refund to be credited to a checking account, they must have a blank check, not a deposit slip. Taxpayers will need records of all income and expenses.
The inaugural Crawfish Festival will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Aversboro Restaurant and Sports Bar, 1411 Aversboro Road, Garner. Proceeds from the festival will go to charities such as the N.C. Food Bank, ARC of Wake County, Pediatric Cancer, Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
