Forty people were recently arrested in North Carolina on state and federal charges of human trafficking, prostitution and kidnapping. Another couple in Durham have been charged with human trafficking within the last few weeks.
Discussions about human trafficking and slavery might seem out of place in our community, but N.C. ranks among the top 10 on the FBI's list of states most likely to have trafficking.
Sandra Johnson, of the Triad Ladder of Hope, a non-profit group in the Winston-Salem area that is dedicated to the eradication of exploitation, sale and enslavement of people, will talk about human trafficking at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Aversboro Road Baptist Church, 1600 Aversboro Road, Garner. A meal will be provided and there is no charge.
