Memorial Day ceremony
Garner VFW Post 10225 will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony 11:15 a.m. May 27, at Montlawn Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 2911 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh. The guest speaker is Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams.
Town of Garner seeks volunteers
The Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking volunteers for its Independence Day celebration Wednesday, July 3, at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Volunteers are needed to help in setup, cleanup, arts and crafts and games. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. They will receive a free T-shirt and meal. The Lake Benson boathouse has opened for the season at 975 Buffaloe Road, Garner. Hours are noon-7 p.m. Fridays, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and noon- 7 p.m. Sundays. It will be closed on Fridays in July and August. Boat rentals start at $4 an hour. No private boats are allowed. Free fishing is available from the dock.
